Welcome to THREDDS Data Server of GEUS Glaciology and Climate.
This server contains the following datasets:
- PROMICE|GC-Net automated weather station data
- SICE albedo and surface properties from Sentinel-3 satellite
- Surface classification from MODIS satellite (as distributed by CryoClim)
- Greenland mass balance from 1840 through next week
Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) Data
The Programme for the Monitoring of the Greenland Ice Sheet (PROMICE) and the Greenland Climate Network (GC-Net) maintain automated weather station data at 40 sites on/around the ice sheet and 11 partner sites. Please check the metadata/AWS_data_readme.pdf file for a full description and terms of use. Please cite the relevant DOI citation listed at the GEUS Dataverse. AWS data at the GEUS Dataverse is a curated archive updated monthly after further QC of the transmitted data.
The AWS data available here are updated hourly with near-real-time transmitted data from the Greenland ice sheet and are provided in both NetCDF and CSV formats. The following processing levels are available:
- Level 2 Stations: Contains the simplest level of processed data from individual stations, with unit conversions, calibrations, manual flagging and fixing, and instrument corrections applied. The data are hourly values, updated with transmission every hour. This level does not include any derived variables.
- Level 3 Sites: Contains comprehensive AWS data where, for each monitoring site, data from redundant stations have been merged into a single file. These files include many derived variables and, for the GC-Net sites, historical data from when these AWS sites were maintained by Prof. K. Steffen.
The metadata directory contains useful information, such as the list of available variables, the list of monitoring sites and stations, and their respective project, installation date/coordinates, and latest estimated coordinates.
SICE
The Sentinel-3 Snow and Ice Products (SICE) data is the reprocessed daily product from 2017-2022 also published on the GEUS Dataverse. The data format is in NetCDF4 and consists of every output from the SICE pipeline. For now only Greenland is being reprocessed in a 500 meter spatial resolution, more regions in the arctic will follow. If you will be using the SICE data in a publication, please cite the releveant DOI on the GEUS Dataverse.
See http://snow.geus.dk for additional information.

CryoClim
Surface classification from MODIS satellite data is distributed on http://www.cryoclim.net/ and described in:
